A master bath showers its guests with calm, cool colors

“I probably bought a thousand magazines,” reflects Cindy Stellhorn, of her exhaustive research to find a master bath style and design that spoke to her without being “a cookie cutter look.” When Cindy and husband Jeff built their home in the Bridgewater community in Carmel, they took an approach of “furnishing” their bath, and created a room that’s easy to want to spend time in. 

“We viewed the shower and tub as pieces of furniture,” explains Cindy, and the goal was for those elements to make a statement. 

Shower power An enticing, oversized shower adorned in blue mosaic tiles stands in the center of the room and serves as the perfect divider of his and her spaces. From floor to ceiling, metallic blue tiles fade to lighter, softer shades—a color scheme inspired by the Stellhorns’ previous home on Morse Reservoir, where they lived on the water for more than 20 years. “It’s the idea of the water and the sky,” says Cindy. “As the tiles go up, they take on more of the appearance of clouds. We put tiles on the ceiling as well to continue the look.”
